abcnews.comI ship in 11 days, was originally going to be Ft. Sill now it’s going to be Ft. Benning, I’m a 68A.
My main question (mostly for family).. is there a family day like Ft. Sill was going to have, where you’re signed out and can spend the day with family then report back before a certain time? Or is it just a quick interaction and no full day?
Thanks!
I have wide feet, my running shoes are a 12.5W. I know you really can't go wrong with either of these boots, but does anyone with wide feet have experience with either one? Wanting to know if sizing up a half size is fine for either (I assumed swelling/thick socks would cram my normal size). Looking to have them sent to me at basic or bought at the PX if they even have my size there.
Thanks!
My current plan is:
10% to Roth TSP with 100% C Fund
10% to AMEX HYSA (I know I could do all the jumping through hoops with brokerages/money market funds and blah blah but I don't think it's worth it for 0.7-1.2% gain, just personally)
Once HYSA has emergency fund built, open a Roth IRA, then:
10% to Roth TSP with 100% C Fund
10% to Roth IRA with 100% S&P Fund
Rebuild savings as needed
Is that fine as a start, or just in general? Just trying to get finances set and in order for once I ship.
Thanks!
If this government shutdown hits before/during my basic training, I'm assuming I won't get paid during that time, correct? Trying to find out for sure so I can move funds around so I don't miss phone/CC payments due to there not being any direct deposits coming in.
Just curious, obviously in basic you can't take/use anything. However, once at AIT, are you able to use supplements like Creatine, Protein Powder, Multivitamins, etc.? What about OTC Finasteride pills? My AIT is going to be 47 weeks long so was hoping to be able to hop back on somewhat of a routine once I get settled.
Title says it all, shipping as a 68A soon. Focused on AIT, already studying the subjects needed to pass the infamously rough first few blocks .. but I was curious, do 68A's deploy frequently? If not, is there any possible way to volunteer for deployment/TDY, or is it all based on unit rotations?
Thank you!
After a long 9 month process through the OCS process (passed boards, was non-selected on the very last step), looking into Air Force, and a ton of personal stuff going on.. I was able to land one of the jobs on my list that I wasn't confident I'd even get. 68A - Biomedical Equipment Specialist.
As far as I know, this MOS is great if I were to stay enlisted, go Warrant, or even get out and be a BMET civilian-side. Of course I can also drop an OCS packet from within as well. It seems to be a great job all around no matter what path I end up taking.
Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on 68A? Did I land a good job like I think I did?
Might go OCS from within, but if that doesn’t work or I want to go Warrant, these jobs are the ones I believe would be very “chill” but offer useful skills in the meantime. My recruiter stated he can likely call up to his recruiting command and secure me one of these due to my scores.
Which would you prefer if given the opportunity? For 15U I’d push to be apart of the flight crew as early as possible as that would be the primary goal. I’ve heard nothing but good things about both MOS’ during my research.
So I’m about to be added to DEP and await my job, however I had to submit a financial waiver because of my previous bankruptcy. I submitted it and it got kicked back by my recruiter’s higher-up saying I have to agree to take any job the Air Force tries to give me.
My recruiter said he thought it was for moral waivers only (the paragraph I have to add to my explanation is literally from a moral waiver document). However, according to his higher-up, even financial waivers have to be subjected to being “willing to accept any job the Air Force offers.”
My recruiter said it isn’t a big deal and he’d still use my job list to find me a job because I got a 94 AFQT and it wouldn’t make sense to ma
So I was non-selected from Army OCS in the very last phase likely due to my age (31). Otherwise, my scores are all very high. I plan on enlisting and dropping an OCS packet from within, likely between 6mo-2yrs depending on a few factors.
I did have an interest in being combat arms, and I feel like if I were to do it now would be the time. For reference, I’m 6’3 (important for 19U) two of my top three officer jobs were 13A and 19A.
I’ve heard the following:
13U - broken spine and surrounded by borderline degenerates
14U - surrounded by people that hate their lives and horrible leadership
19U - surrounded by cool degenerates but uncomfortable due to height
Any input would be appreciated
I got to the last phase of Army OCS and ended up being a nonselect likely due to my age. I’m 31, AFQT 94, GT 129, GPA 3.84.
I don’t really have time to wait around for a whole other officer processing phase, so I’m going the enlisted route (for now). Whether that leads to Warrant, OCS, or I just love my job and stay enlisted, I’m looking at other branches because if I’m going to enlist it likely shouldn’t be Army.
Ideally I’d love to travel as much as possible and be topside (top deck? Whatever is on the deck). I figured if I’d be crammed into a tuna can for sleeping arrangements I’d at least want my job to be topside.
I’m working with an AF recruiter now but was curious if there were any
