Yes, really free.

It doesn't show in the research "tree", but the warehouse upgrade you can get early on gives you 35 of each workforce on every island.

I think that's huge. Not only is workforce more valuable in 117 over 1800, but it also means you don't need to establish a settlement immediately just to build a sapper or sth.

Everyone is talking about the design of the HUD in 117 with valid criticism.

But I noticed that besides stylistically, they left a lot of opportunities unaddressed in the trade route menu.

Like why not just when picking a good for an island by default show what's in store or being produced there? Would be such a time saver.

TL;DR: I built my own event processing layer on top of QMK to overcome some limitations of QMK and realize my efficient 24 key layout.

Hello fellow nerds,

I have started my journey on alternate keyboard layouts a few month ago after developing wrist pain from typing at work. This led me to develop a heavily customized firmware using only 24 keys that I now daily drive.

Why not just stock QMK?

I learned fast that I could not accomplish the layout I thought up with QMK without custom code for the following reasons:

  • Can't have the combos for the same keys but different order (that's what I tried initially)
  • Mod-tap can't easily(!) activate a layer on tap
  • Rolling was an issue (didn

TL;DR: I'm sharing my approach to overload one key with different functions without having to tune timings.

Hello community,

I have started my journey on alternate keyboard layouts a few month ago after developing wrist pain from typing at work. This led me to develop a heavily customized layout using only 24 keys that I now daily drive. I have almost reached my previous typing speed while minimizing movement and thus strain on my wrist.

A lot of what makes this layout work comes from overloading keys with different behavior depending on if they're tapped or held and what keys are pressed immediately after.

While this idea certainly isn't new, I did develop a "technique" that allows me

Gods in 117

Discussion

The religion mechanic is one I'm really looking forward to in 117 as it has potential to add flair and since you pick a single deity for an island, also is a choice with the potential to deeply impact the game in both early and late game.

We saw some of the gods "revealed" in the streams but also know that there's some hidden in the discovery tree and probably also in future DLCs (hello Egypt).

Many gods had something to do with fertility, which obviously maps well to population, but I think it could be a lot more interesting.

Some of my ideas:

Zeus, give reputation with all other NPCs being dedicated to some god. Would enable easier peaceful play through. Could also protect from disast

Hi there,

I have some connection problems in my home network. I just switched the WAN access on my router (NanoPi R4S with FriendlyWRT) from simple DHCP (cable) to PPPoE (Telekom VDSL Germany).

Most traffic works, but sometimes websites (or parts of them) don't load. I was able to extract a request as curl command to reproduce this:

curl 'https://backend.ikea.de/api/expertencheck' -vv

Running the request from a client in the LAN, the TLS handshake never gets a server hello back. From the router itself everything works fine.

I took some tcpdumps on the router and can see that when the connection is coming from the LAN, the first 2 packets from the server (2920B) are missing. I'm pr

Hi there.

I'm trying to get a single bar gauge with values from different queries to stack. Currently I'm using Grafana 7.

I have min, max, q99, q50 etc for one data set. And I'd like them all sit on one horizontal line basically with marks where each value sits and different colors.

How is this possible? Doesn't seem like an overly specific use case to me.

Edit: I'm using a Prometheus data source if that matters.

I came across the ulimit -l setting being too low today and since I don't have a huge admin background, I had to google some stuff and now I'm wondering...

On a Kubernetes node, where swap is disabled anyways, why would you want to limit the amount of memory you can lock with mlock?

Since your process's virtual memory wouldn't be swapped anyways and so technically you wouldn't ever require mlock. Is that correct or am I missing something?

Applications would still use mlock, since obviously they can't just assume they're run on Kubernetes with swap disabled, but if I know that it's disabled on my node, I may as well not limit it, right?

I saw yesterday, that to start progress towards the second twitch drop goal, you need to claim the first one first.

Only then your time counts towards the 2 more hours you need for that.

This didn't use to be like that. I hope everyone gets their drops.

TL;DR: Don't use if-else statements in your Dockerfile, instead, use named stages.

I recently saw a post here about multi-arch builds. The Dockerfile included an if-else statement. I thought, could this be done cleaner? My post shortly demonstrates how.

This applies when you're distinguishing in your Docker build between architectures, environments, etc.

Hi, I'm trying to understand the following issue:

My setup: Router running OpenWRT with the Unifi Controller running in a docker container, a switch and a UAP-AC-LR AP.

The router has a VLAN device with vlanid 20, static IP 192.168.20.1/24 and DHCP server. The switch ports for router and AP are configured as trunk ports (the AP one with PVID 20). Devices can get an IP and communicate with the router. The AP shows up in the dashboard, gets an IP in the subnet, but adoption always fails.

I can also not ssh into the AP. It's on factory settings. Is this expected?

I've configured the inform IP in the controller to 192.168.20.1, so reachable for the AP. I've also created a network in the cont
