My husband went through a life threatening emergency this summer and still has ongoing issues. He is off of work right now. I teach secondary full time but am struggling so much right now. I’m permanent and have never requested a personal day. I asked for one to attend a medical appointment with him and had to explain the details of everything in order to be approved. I also have an extremely challenging class at the end of the day. There is a particular student who swears and is violent with lots of needs. His mom has been emailing me and is on my case about meeting his needs already.

I don’t know what to do. I’m struggling so much. But I’m worried my doctor will deny the leave or only gi

I (25F) was diagnosed about a year ago with colitis after I had a scope done. I find my symptoms get worse with stress.

I’m currently dealing with a pain that I’ve never had so badly. Recently went through a traumatic situation watching a loved one go through a serious medical emergency. About a week later my stomach has been in pain almost all day and night. My lower back has been bugging me before all this, but now it is 10 times worse.

I wake up in the middle of the night from the pain and cannot sleep or get comfortable. I’ve tried massage therapy, chiropractor, stretching, heat, and ibuprofen/tylenol.

Nothing has helped. I also get the urge to go to the bathroom but not much comes

26 yo male, 175lbs, otherwise healthy. Posting on behalf of my husband.

March 2026: went to ER with chest pain, difficulty breathing. Doctor assumed pneumonia and sent home with antibiotics (no x ray done to confirm). After antibiotic course, condition got much worse. Ambulance called due to extreme shortness of breath, pain, and dizziness. Diagnosed with pericarditis, told to take naproxen for 2 weeks and go back to work. Condition improved.

July 2026: started with shoulder pain, spread to chest and collarbones. Extreme pain, shortness of breath, fever. Back to ER where he was diagnosed with recurring pericarditis. Admitted for 3 nights. Discharged with colchicine, ibuprofen, and told t

I’m a permanent secondary teacher, and I still have not been told my schedule for next year. Most people have theirs, but myself and a few others were told our situation is up in the air right now because they don’t know what department to put us in.

My school has now posted LTOs, some of which are in my usual department.

I’ve contacted a union rep to ask, but is it normal for LTOs to be hired when permanent teachers still don’t know their assignment?

TIA!

Tick testing?

Questions

Anyone know where I can bring a tick to be tested for Lyme? Pulled one off my husbands neck today.

Feeling very frustrated and stupid right now.

My major is in biology and I have a second teachable in social sciences. I did supply teaching for a few years and a few LTOs. When permanent postings went out, I always applied for everything. People told me to do this. Show you’re eager. You can always move around once you get permanent. It’s normal to have to work in areas you don’t love for a bit.

I applied to a permanent tech position (cooking) and was offered the job. People said I should take it because again, once your foot is in the door you can move around. It was only one section, and the rest I could be topped up with science courses. Also, I am not qualified in tech, so I figured

Mom using ChatGPT as a therapist

[Rant/Vent, Advice OK]

My nmom (50f) is now using chat as a therapist. I told her to be careful about putting in personal information and that AI typically generates answers it thinks you want to hear. She is adamant that it’s a good tool.

It is obviously great for her in her mind because it’s likely telling her she’s doing everything right and it will automatically support her side.

Sigh.

I’d like to hear if other people have experienced this. For example, a parent being unhappy over a grade, and then completely going after you and listing any possible thing to get you in trouble.

Do parents not realize this is our career? Our livelihood? It blows my mind that some parents would happily ruin a persons career just to get their way over something so small and insignificant.

Having an extremely difficult semester. I’ve managed for a while with medication, but I’m struggling so much right now.

What can I do? Where do I start?

Last night was one of the most painful moments of my life. I had a sudden very sharp onset of pain in my lower abdomen that spread to my right side. I was barely able to walk. I began shaking and vomiting. At that point I genuinely thought my appendix had burst or something. I went to the hospital and waited about 5 hours. Got bloodwork and a urinalysis and results were all negative. Doctor sent me home and said drink more water and eat more fibre. I’m still in alot of pain this morning. I’m a bit upset that he didn’t order an ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t a burst cyst or something else…

Just need to vent as I’m feeling really upset by this and overall unwell.

I’m a newer tech teacher but I also teach core subjects. It’s easy in core subjects to justify marks for the most part. But as a tech teacher I am struggling. I did some book work at the start of the semester and have some solid marks from that. But the rest as you know is mainly application. I usually give a rating out of 10 at the end of the week based on collaboration, initiative, being safe, cleaning up, time management etc.

But when a parent asks for “proof” of these marks, how can I explain it besides it’s my professional judgement? I have no kids failing; so I’m not too worried about parents coming at me. But I live in an area where parents may say “why are they only at an 85? Not a

Stressed about an incident today

Teacher Support &/or Advice

I teach a tech class at the end of the day with 15 year olds. Overall they’re a very lively and positive group which is great, but sometimes they take things too far. I constantly get attitude from them. I’ve called home, given detentions, and sent kids to the office for being unsafe in the shop (roughhousing and whatnot). I’ve honestly never had issues with classroom management like this. Normally I have a good handle on things.

Today, they were being disrespectful and completely ignoring me while I gave instruction. I raised my voice and was very firm. I said it’s really frustrating coming to this class sometimes when you guys are so disrespectful to me. I have no issues with my morning

Been on Prozac 20mg for a year now almost, and it’s done wonders for my anxiety and OCD. But my libido is seriously non existent. It’s really upsetting to me because I’ve finally found something that helps me mentally, but I feel so guilty that this is happening. I’m also married and wish I was more excited for intimacy but it feels like the switch has just been completely shut off. I’m only 25 yo!! I feel like this should not be happening.
