Post is simple. There's not yet a replacement for CentOS 8 ppc64le, for either Rocky or Alma. I'd like to use my hardware to get this done and give back to the community.

So, one of my lab systems is a 144 thread POWER9 based Talos II system, decked out with a lot of RAM + Optane + PCIe gen4 NVMe drives. I currently have Centos 8 ppc64le running on it and am working on building a ppc64le version of HardenedBSD in a VM, to which I'd like to start building a ppc64le version of Rocky Linux in another VM.

Is there any documentation or scripts that I can use to get this conversion project started?

Compiling all of the RPMs from SRPMs is not new territory for me and I have time and resources

Before I write up a lengthy technical post, I'm curious if the community would like to see a walkthrough of setting up HBSD 13-stable to use as a daily use desktop system. I run HBSD on most of my servers and have preferred FreeBSD for my workstation over any linux distro, so eventually I switched that to HBSD as well.

This system has been in service since November back when 13-current was still in development. It's been a great experience overall, so it's sad to see people post issues about stability and decide to give up; perhaps a success story would be helpful.

I primarily use *BSD on my servers, and have used OpenBSD as a desktop a while back (10+ years), but I've decided to ditch linux on my workstation after the centos issues and use either regular FreeBSD or Ghost. In any case, the only two apps I can think of that will be an issue for work are Slack and Zoom.

How are most people running those in the BSD world? I figured a VM with linux but I'd rather not if at all possible.

I'm currently using vm-bhyve via packages, with ZFS zvols and some PCIe pass through, nothing too complicated. It gets the job done but I want more virtualization features and am probably going to switch to cbsd since it supports jails, bhyve, and xen. also seems to make sr-iov easier to configure and manage.

Anyone have caveats or complaints about the app, or experience that would steer me away from it?

I'm redesigning an environment and have the option of deploying an Oracle appliance VM that manages centralized ZFS keys and other ident creds, which I purposely forgot the name of, because I hate the idea of using their apps.

I'm wondering what others are using when implementing a network based non-local ZFS encryption key store. This would be running on a local isolated management network vlan'd away from regular server traffic.

Obv the usual requirements apply: encryption of data in transit, most likely some manner of auth via key exchange, and a hardened service at the destination to ensure the keys are safe in the central storage system.

I'm going to cap some MObotanicals "30% UEMD" bagged powder, but want to make sure my numbers are correct. If anyone has done the conversion and has different values please let me know.

To start with, I've seen it stated by u/magnumopusbotanicals that the the pure extract is dosed at:

120mg extract = 5g leaf

On their UEMD page they state that the 30% product is infused as "30g of Kratom Alkaloid Extract for every 70g of Kratom leaf", which is 30g +70g = 100g. In order to figure out the total leaf equivalent per 1g dosage of "30% UEMD" product there's some simple math.

To find out a base value we simplify 120 / 5 = 24, which means per every 1g of leaf = we get 24mg extract
