Hey r/droidappshowcase 👋

I'm Tim, the indie dev behind Shuttle Music Player (5M+ installs back in the day). Almost two years ago I was on parental leave, and I started building Shuttle Podcasts because, like a lot of you, I missed Google Podcasts when it shut down. Nothing else had quite the same simple, modern, material design, so I built it for myself.

So it's been 2 years.. I've now got two toddlers, and this app. I've put a lot of effort into it and I'm very proud. For a long time it was sort of just.. good enough for me to use. But over the last 9 months or so I've done everything I can to make it production ready. It has a dedicated backend, fast search, new episode notifications, an

A bit off topic..

I've been a programmer almost exactly as long as I've been a redditor - a colleague introduced me to both things at the same time! Thanks for the career and also ruining my brain?

I'm not sure how long this sub has been around, r/android was the home for devs for a while before this took off, iirc.

Anyway, this community is one I lurk in, I tend to check it daily just in case something new and cool comes about, or there's a fight between u/zhuinden and Google about whether anyone cares about process death. I've been here for the JW nuthugging, whatever the hell r/mAndroiddev is, and I've seen people loudly argue clean architecture and best practices and all the other

Google Podcasts is dead. I spent 18 months building the successor.

I'm the developer of Shuttle Music player. In July 2024 Google killed Google Podcasts. 2 weeks later I made my first code commit. I'm proud to announce Shuttle Podcasts, the ad-free, privacy first, spiritual successor to Google Podcasts

---

I developed Shuttle Music Player back in 2012.

In 2024 Google released a fateful update to Google Podcasts:

"After 23 June 2024, you will no longer be able to listen to podcasts in Google Podcasts.."

I was pretty bummed.. I really liked Google Podcasts, it had just the right UI for my Pixel

Hey friends 👋

I'm hoping you'll make a special allowance for me to post this here, as one of the original moderators of this sub (I brought in the first auto-moderator rules, way back in the day), and the developer of Shuttle Music Player, hailing back to circa 2012.. this community has been very good to me.

This isn't a sloppy AI post or me trying to sell you a Claude generated workout tracker..

To the Tasmanian community and elected officials,

I am a parent of two young children currently enrolled in daycare in Tasmania. Like many families, we rely on quality childcare to participate fully in the workforce and provide for our children. But recent national news of serious abuse cases in childcare centres has left us extremely concerned. It's clear that stronger, immediate action is needed to protect children in early education settings - not just in other states, but here in Tasmania as well.

While Tasmania has taken some steps, such as requiring Registration to Work with Vulnerable People and adopting national guidelines on limiting personal phone use, these policies fall short o

Hey.. looking for some advice on a KVM..

I have an Apple M1 Pro Z14W000TJX/A connected via thunderbolt to a single LG 38WN95C-W monitor, a Macbook keyboard and trackpad (USB-A), a desktop PC connected to the LG via Displayport.

I'm looking for some sort of port or KVM switch. It doesn't necessarily have to support thunderbolt, if hdmi is just as good for the mac. But ultimately, it should be able to support the monitor as completely as possible, keep my laptop charged, and offer usb-a & usb-c connections for various peripherals. Bonus if it can support 3.5mm audio as well.

I'm getting analysis paralysis looking around. I don't mind if I need to chain a couple things together. I'm al
