Was unable to use the Windows app to update either the guitar or dongle for my Xbox edition controller. Clicking either the "Guitar" or "Wireless Receiver" button would just result in the app crashing after a second or two. Looking at event logs it's missing the x86 version of MSVCP140.dll.

The fix was installing the Microsoft C++ 2015-2022 x86 Redistributable: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe

After installing and rebooting, the Firmware updater no longer crashed, and I was able to update both the guitar and dongle. Hope this helps somebody else.

Starting to shop around to replace my 2018 VW Atlas w/ 145K mi. This was previously my wife’s commuter car (as ridiculous as that is) and still holds the role of long trip and bunch-of-people hauler. Most of the time it now sits in our driveway as I work remotely. I use it to run errands and occasionally make the 6 mi commute into my office, so it’s mostly driven either <15mi or >200mi per day.

Our other vehicle is a 2024 VW ID.4 Pro, which is now my wife’s commuter, and used for pretty much any driving that isn’t covering several states in a day or require the capacity of a large SUV. We have a smaller charge set-up (L2 @ 16A), but it easily covers all the driving it does.

I’ve toyed with

I have a 2024 VW ID.4 (RWD w/ 37k mi) which had a puncture in the shoulder of the rear tire, so couldn't be repaired.

Took it to a national tire chain to get new tires on the rear wheels (front wheels use a different size tire).

Hankook Kinergy AS X EV - 255/50R19

I opted for the same tire since I've been happy enough with these, and wasn't looking to have something different on back vs the front, which still had 7/32 tread. They didn't have these in stock, but ordered them and were able to install the next day.

Picked it up in the rain, so didn't get a chance to really look things too close. At home I see the tires have the following DOT codes:

  • 1521
  • 1121

Is this too old? Especiall

Anybody have a link to a torrent for the 43.1 boot.tar.xz? Should match the following:

https://mirrors.o2switch.fr/batocera/x86_64/stable/43.1/boot.tar.xz.md5

d1d675b89e391cbb82dc4ed4f8813857

Only the full install batocera-x86_64-43.1-20260529.img.gz file is available officially as a torrent.

Official HTTPS mirror is very slow currently. Don't want to step on anyone's toe, but happy to help limit the load. Once this is downloaded, you can follow the steps here to update via cmd line:

I have a single game (Mario Sunshine) which freezes at start (either as soon as the first “cube” drops with Gamecube boot logo enabled, or during the drawing of the “M” graffiti) when the renderer is set to Vulkan. Game works fine when set to OpenGL. Additional details:

  • Running on a AMD Raven Ridge CPU/GPU (definitely supports Vulkan)
  • This game previously worked on this system (Batocera 40), has not worked since upgrading to 42
  • All other Gamecube games work fine set to Vulkan
  • This game works fine on this system when set to Vulkan on a clean install of Batocera 42
  • Deleting the game and save, rebooting, then adding the game back resulted in no change
  • Freeze happens when launching

Dell Latitude 5495 (Ryzen 2500U) - Fedora 42 (Issue has occurred for over a year, happened with Fedora 41 as well)

This system will intermittently fail to completely resume from sleep. It manifests in one of three ways:

  • Screen comes on, can enter password to unlock, but most software/commands will fail to start/load, and dmesg will show that the NVMe drive is missing
  • Screen comes on, but cannot get past lockscreen. Password always fails.
  • Screen power turns on, but just black displayed.

In all cases, it appears the NVMe drive doesn’t wake up, level of success depends on what was cached in memory. In all cases a hard reset is required (holding the power button). Choosing power-off or

I have a second hand Latitude 5495 (Ryzen 2500U). It will intermittently fail to resume from sleep because the NVMe drive doesn’t wake up with the rest of the system.

The issue is present on both Windows and Linux. BIOS is up-to-date (1.18.0). I’ve tried two different NVMe models, and it occurs with both (these drives work fine in other systems):

Purchased Battletech on Steam several years ago, but never bought any of the DLC. Looking at SteamDB, $24.87 is the lowest price ever for the "Season Pass Bundle": https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/12661/BATTLETECH_Season_Pass_Bundle/

Any reason to buy the Steam version vs the GOG one which contains the entire base game and all DLC for half the price ($12.59)?: https://www.gog.com/en/game/battletech_mercenary_collection

Given the history and the age of the game already, I doubt it's ever going to get much cheaper on Steam.

Before I get into this - All speeds noted are wired. I am not looking at, caring about, or testing wireless speeds. Also, IPv6 is disabled.

Renewed my 300/300 plan to get back the $10 auto-pay discount. Figured I'd try the new router I'm allegedly already paying for. Prior to this I have a G1100 (Fios Quantum Gateway) and my speed tests are typically around 310/340.

Upon installing the new CR1000A router and letting it update/reboot and settle in for 30 minutes, speed testing shows results around 290/75. I let it sit overnight, power cycle it this AM, and after waiting around 30 min, I'm seeing about the same "less then 100 Mbps upload" (sometimes as low as 25).

I factory reset the C

My 2018 Atlas with 135k mi has the leaking valve cover. If I'm doing (or paying someone to do) this job, should I replace the valve cover at the same time instead of reusing the old one and just replacing the gasket?

It looks like this has an integrated PCV valve and I'd hate to have that fail right after doing this. This seem like decent insurance while everything is apart.

It's fairly often that I use a phone for less then 10 min a day (I usually go ~3 days between charging). I think that's why buying a more expensive/larger device seems silly to me, especially when it spends most of the time not being used or just being something larger to be carried around in my pocket. I do keep the same device for a while (going on 4.5 years for current one).

Current phones (for reference):

  • Samsung A10e
    • Sometimes seems too large
    • Happy with performance
    • Starting to have battery/software issues
  • iPhone 13 mini (work)
    • Very happy with this size

Requirements:

  • SD card support
  • ambient light sensor (silly, but my A10e doesn't have this and it's my #1
