Hi r/fixit,

My cheap-ass five year old 5.1 Sound System is giving up on me. A few weeks ago it started making this "static noise" for a few seconds after I turned it on; the few seconds turned into minutes and then hours. Now it's always like this. On the first days the sound of what I was playing would come out along with the static, now it only "plays" this noise.

Given that I have no previous experience with this kind of electronic, is it economically viable to fix it? Would it be easily solved with a cheap spare part and a soldering iron? Or should I take it to a repair shop?

More info:

  • It happens on all of the five speakers even with no input on
  • The cables
