Stared on Science Fiction in high school (OK first with fantasy Nine Prices in Amber, but Asimov soon thereafter) and in college was captivated by science fiction short stories. I loved the Anthology Series The Year's Best Science Fiction. Many of the short stories had ideas that enlightened me, changed how I viewed the world, educated me, resonated deeply with me, some that I think about today. For years, I've keep the small paperback books, through apartment moves, through marriage, through home buying and selling. Having them in my possession meant a part of my early cognitive and world view development.

Last year, I decided to reread everything. I tried. Sadly, the cheap wood pulp

My business has grown over 13 years. I now have two managers, one managing 10 and the other managing 20. I see them struggling with people management, as do most people. I'd like to take them aside every couple of weeks and do a mini-How-to-Manage-People training with them. I figure I'd take a small topic each time, and talk through some advice from the industry on how to do that piece better.

What Manager training tips sources have you found? Books that list Top 10 ways to be a better manager? Manager training courses with a few clear takeaways? What has worked for you? I really want to support these two and help them build their managerial ability. As you know, doing the job and

What food did I crave most for the years before my kidney transplant? Chocolate was one, avocados another. But as a Southern Californian born and bred, not having In-N-Out hit me really hard, specifically the fries. Also couldn't have cheese on the burger.

Got a kidney transplant two months ago, and no longer have those restrictions. Enjoying In-N-Out fries and Double Double at least once a week. So good to be back.

This is a film soundtrack I listen to over and over again through the years. When it first came out it hit hard for me as a closeted gay man living a mostly closeted life. To have the people around you not know the real you, was a powerful theme. (Interestingly, it was followed the next year by Tootsie (1983) which kind of is the same theme if you squint a bit).

Yes, some have said Barbra was too old to play the role at the time, but damn her voice and her characterization of the songs was perfection. And the songs themselves are so beautiful and powerful. Great lyrics so smooth and natural you don't recognize at first the complex rhyme schemes, sweeping musical themes. Many of the so

Two months post transplant. Listen to all the guidance and take following it very seriously.

One of the foods I was happy to get to eat again after avoiding it for years because of potassium were tangerines. More specifically my favorite tangerine which is a Minneola tangelo I’ve been enjoying it and being grateful to be able to eat it again when I got curious about it being primarily seedless and decided to look it up in Wikipedia my horror to find that Mineola tangelo‘s are cross bread between tangerines and grapefruit. Immediately called my transplant, nurse to find out how badly I screwed up was told they would monitor it through my tacrolimus levels. Just a reminder to watch out for th

I see this asked a lot, and I know I’m asking again. I spent a couple of hours last night hunting down online candy providers. My test cases were: Milky Way Midnight minis, Banana Now ‘N’ Laters, cantaloupe Jelly Belly, Dutch mints, and Wacky Wafers. I found many, many sites that were listing candies, but as Out of Stock. I found some with insane prices, like 4x and 5x normal. I found some with very lame search functions which made finding stuff impossible.

For the last few years, I’ve indulged random sweet tooth items using Amazon. Did some amazing things at Thanksgiving time with pumpkin and pumpkin spice flavors. Found great variety of circus peanuts, which I love. Not the greate
