I think I’m done DMing.

Need Advice: Other

I need to vent somewhere that isn’t my group chat, because I’m sitting here angry, hurt, and honestly, heartbroken.

I’ve been running this homebrew world for years. I’ve spent hours every week prepping not just encounters, but politics, lore, world history, NPC arcs, moral choices, everything. This wasn’t “just game night” for me it was art, storytelling, a way to make something meaningful for people I care about.

We ended up with eight players. That wasn’t by design it was because my brother and my uncle, who are also players, invited more people without asking me. Because we’re family, they just assumed it was fine. I told them multiple times that it wasn’t that I can’t properly run for

keen mind

Need Advice: Other

my players in dnd do not keep up with the story.

its frustrating

but they think since their characters have keen mind I have to hand hold explaining the story every session

and spoon feed them lore they already learned literally last session.

I believe the player is still responsible for paying attention and taking notes I should not required to spoon-feed them because they picked a feat.

is that what this means?

So don't judge me, I started with skyrim. back when morrowind, and oblivion first came out I was more into icewind dale, and Baldur's gate 1 and 2 kind of games. so never played them live.

But enough background, now that remastered has come out I'm playing through the thieves guild faction. She starts off not even a member of the guild, competing with you (the player character.) and you win obviously. to which she says "Now I'll never get in the guild."

And then while you’re still delivering love letters and stealing pocket change, she’s already running Guild ops behind the scenes. And ends up becoming a quest giver. Before you’ve even proven yourself, she’s already operating with

Yeah we know being stunned and incapacitated sucks.

I keep seeing advice on YouTube and forums saying, “Don’t stun your players” or “Avoid incapacitating conditions because it takes players out of the game.” I think that advice is dumb.

I started with 3.5, where death was common. If you went down, you might be out of the game for two hours while the DM figured out how to introduce your new character. Being stunned for a couple of rounds is way better than rolling up a new character mid-session. Plus, if you can’t have fun just watching the game and seeing how your friends handle the challenge, then maybe D&D isn’t the right game for you.

This is a legit question... How did T-Rexes mate?

I'm genuinely intrigued. You would think their massive tails would get in the way?

I would figure a back mount procedure, I just can't see them laying down?

Perhaps the females laid the eggs and then the males fertilized them?

Forgive my ignorance, just looking for plausible answers...

I have a player that has multi classed a bard and a warlock. But he told me he gains access to warlock spells based on his character level not his warlock spell.

I believe he is incorrect. But I don’t know warlock multi-class enough to argue it back. Can I get a rule check on this?

Cheating

Need Advice: Other

I have a player that we haven’t been able to see if he is really cheating or not. So this is all speculation, because we don’t have any definitive proof. But he rolls natural twenties unnaturally high. Every session he has at least 4 natural twenties. But the problem is his die is so hard to read we can’t really tell what he rolled. The dice has the exact same colors as the die and the numbers so they blend in really well. The problem I’m facing is this is effecting other players as they have come up and complained about his die. Asking if his die is loaded or not. The problem is we can’t catch him in cheating because the players sitting on the left and right of the player can’t read the die

Volley + horde breaker

Need Advice: Rules & Mechanics

So last night during our session the ranger wanted to use volley +horde breaker during an attack.

He hit creature A & B with volley. Then he wanted to hit B with horde breaker because they were five feet from each other.

I ruled that wouldn’t be possible since the line says ‘make a weapon attack against a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target.’

So I argued that creatures A & B were original targets so he would have to hit a hypothetical creature C.

Two of my players argued because they say that’s not how that works. (Both players are power gamers so that’s a whole other problem I have.)

But I’m just curious RAW was that the correct call? Or should I let the ran

About to buy a modular desk. And I was going to add the headphone stand to the desk. I was also looking at adding the player power pack accessory. Weird question but they were not available to add to my cart. Are those accessories already sold out? And if so are they going to come back in stock or did I miss the boat?
