I have a Consew P1206RB flatbed machine, it sews pretty good for flat stuff, but I have been struggling to get it to sew gussets. Can anyone provide some good advice on how to sew gussets on a flatbed? Youtube videos are good if you have any, experienced advice is always welcome!
I have done some turned gussets and of course they come out fine because it's two pieces laid flat and sewn, but doing anything else is just painful. I am fairly new to sewing leather on a machine, but have about 10 years of experience with upholstery work, so I generally understand terminology and machine mechanics.
Thanks!
My brother bought a Jeep, so I thought I would make this for him to keep some tools with him (it's an older Jeep). I really like how it turned out and no sewing! :). Pattern by QCrafted. I needed some practice on rivets...and still do, but it was fun!
I made the Brigantine by DS Leather Goods with rancho brown Horween Essex. The strap D-Rings are made from black Horween Dublin. I went with the Loxx closure purely for the looks! :). I made this specific one because I really like the look of the gussets. This was my first time making this type and I can see using it in a lot of other bags and purses. The Essex isn't my favorite leather because it kind of feels like finished split...not sure if it is all that way or just the piece I got. Anyhow - Here it is. It was quite fun to make!
I made this after consulting for MONTHS with my wife...she is very particular about her purses! I used the size of the Portland Leather Metro Mini and developed the pattern on my own with a few design cues from the Mini. I learned a lot while making it, specifically how to do magnet closures. I used Horween Buccaneer leather in 4 ounce for the whole purse and skived the leather I used to cover the magnets with my french 10mm skiver. I wish I could have gotten it thinner, but the magnets work very well both for closing the flap and keeping it closed. There is a full width pocket sewn in (attached to the back) that mostly fits an iPhone 16 Pro. The gussets are sewn in on the sides and ri
I bought a set of the BG/Corter punching irons and decided to make a pouch for them. I have made a few other ones for my other irons, but wanted to make one a bit nicer. This one is made out of some bug bitten scrap leather I had laying around, but I kind of dig it...yeah, "dig it", that made me sound really old! LOL!
I picked up a Consew P1206RB today. Has anyone on here used this machine before? On paper and in videos it seems like it will be great, but I am curious of anyone with actual experience with it. TIA!
I made my sister-in-law a cellphone case/wallet. We are visiting on vacation next week and I hate coming to stay with someone empty handed. :). Made out of some 5 ounce TLG Harvest Saddle from Acadia Leather, stitched with brown .8mm Tiger thread. The strap is some 10 ounce Latigo that is strapped down to 1/2 inch with a strap cutter. I used a pattern from SpringbokCraftSupply on Etsy.
My mom has been carrying a HUGE bag for several years because her husband didn't like to carry any of his own stuff...yes, he was kind of a jerk. Anyways - She wanted a smaller bag, so I made her one.
I have been practicing this one for a bit, it turns out really well most of the time. Stitching is still needing work, but overall I am happy with it. Made out of Wickett & Craig medium brown harness and black bridle with 3.85 French irons and brown Tiger thread.
I had some Ostrich crust laying around for a bit and was wanting to make something, so I dug through the scrap boxes and came up with this.
It is Ostrich leg exterior with Wicket & Craig bridle for pockets and Herman Oak for the liner and hidden pockets. Kind of an oddball combination, but it was fun to make. My first time with Ostrich leg.

I fell into the Maverick Leather trap and bought the 30 sq. ft. bundle of Italian Vachetta partial shoulders. I got some great leather (one piece is sky blue, but feels like it deserves to be used for something great!), it all comes in on the high side of 10 ounce. I need some ideas on what to make with it! Please shoot some ideas out! 😄
