I feel like this is a stupid question but there you are. I'm currently on an unpaid career break and it recently came to light that my employer had paid me for two months in error. I was out of the country travelling so wasn't exactly checking my pay/bills account. Once I noticed I emailed my line manager, asked him to get them to stop paying me and to find out how to get the money back to them.

HR have been in touch and seem insistent that the amount to be repaid is the gross salary total for the two months wheras I am willing (and able) to pay back the net amount (aka what i actually received.

Am I going mad? They're talking about setting up a payment plan. I have the money ( I obviously

Good morning all,

I'm through all the week9 psets and have started working on my final project but am looking for a little advice.

For context, my final project intends to run a python script to pull data (specifically sports scores) from twitter, take that data and populate it into some persistent storage (csv, json or sqlite are all options i could implement) and then use an implementation of flask to read the data and present it on the front end

I'm having a little trouble with a couple of things and was wondering if someone could provide a little guidance.

  1. A test that I built had the front end and the back end too closely coupled, meaning that any browser refresh would

Bear with me because I may use some poor terminology here.

I've been learning both java and python, merrily making my way through the helsinki MOOCs for both languages while working on a couple of personal projects on the side. IntelliJ for java and Pycharm for Python.

Tonight I started playing around with the local directory structure for my projects, the install locations for intellij/pycharm and the install location for python and now, nothing works.

I've deleted and reinstalled python and pycharm (after uploading my wip to github) and after reinstalling i get a slew of messages at various times about enrivonment variables and the lack of a python interpreter. I'm not sure what to dele

Hi, I’m looking for a bit of guidance on a project I’d like to start developing. The problem I’m having is that I’m having trouble properly articulating the things I think I need to learn about and what tasks would need to be done in order to make this a reality.

I’d like to build something that reads data from two different sources. One is a static website where I’m scraping the data and parsing the HTML (with python). The second is the same but on Twitter. I would use the API but getting access to that seems impossible at the moment.

What I’m aiming to do here is take the data scraped from the static website to inform a list of sports games that I publish on a website based on the curren

I might be getting a little ahead of myself so bear with me.

I've just finished the MOOC from UoH and want to start to explore some ideas that I know I don't know much about but through a project. I'm looking to build a programme that can read from Twitter and it looks like Twitter4j is a fairly commonly used library for this.

I'm trying to get it set up just to see if I can make it do something simple like read in a tweet and write it to the console but I'm hitting a brick wall with setting it up.

Am I getting ahead of myself. Is there something I need to learn before being able to do this (Maven?) or am I just missing the point. I've found several videos/guides about how to set somethin

Hi, I'm working on exercise 14.3 of the java mooc where I'm building an interest calculator, the idea being that we use javafx to build a line chart that changes it's display based on two sliders (one for monthly saving amount and the other for interest rate).

I've managed to prouce a line chart that updates based on the slider, however it's, for want of a better word, very laggy. When you drag the slider around the line updates very slowly. I suspect it's my code so if anyone could give me any feedback that would be really useful. I suspect the offending code is here:

savingSlider.valueProperty().addListener(event -> {
        monthlySave.getData().clear();
        for(int

Evening all, I'm having trouble submitting my code for exercise 13.1 in a way that hasn't cropped up before. For reference, when I run the code it works as expected, when I run the tests they pass, but when I try to submit I get a pop up that I've not seen before giving me some warnings.

my code is this:

package myFirstApplication;

import javafx.application.Application;
import javafx.stage.Stage;

public class MyFirstApplication extends Application{

@Override
public void start(Stage window){
    window.setTitle("My first application");
    window.show();
}

public static void main(String[] args) {
    launch(MyFirstApplication.c

I'm up to the end of part 11 of the UoH MOOC and today's exercise has me scratching my head. I'm supposed to create a method that loads a dictionary from a file and returns false if it fails and true if it succeeds. Code can be found here (the specific method is load() in the SaveableDictionary class.

https://github.com/yanader/yanader-mooc.fi/tree/main/part11-Part11_13.SaveableDictionary

It's not producing any errors but it's definitely not loading the dictionary. Am I doing something odd here.

Also worth noting that I have implemented this as two ArrayLists because the course content specifically hinted on the previous section at reviewing material on how to delete from an ArrayList. I

Good afternoon,

I'm currently working through the MOOC from UoH (for those that are familiar) and am currently encountering a problem is exercise 7.7.

GitHub

So the intention of the code is to take a file name from the user, and use it's contents to create Recipe Objects and then add them to a RecipeBook Object

The large portion of commented code in RecipeSearch.java was successfully reading the contents of the file and adding it as required. I'm trying to tidy it up and have attempted to move the functionality of populating the RecipeBook to RecipeBook.java and now when I try to call recipeBook.populat

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor setup to two QHDs.

My question is, as I am running at GTX 1060, will I run into any issues where my GPU struggles with them both? I want to make a monitor purchase that is going to stand me in good stead for the long term (i have no real interest in going up to 4k) but, as you're all aware, now isn't the best time to upgrade my GPU.

will it just be a case of me not getting 100% out of my monitors for the first part of there life with me or am i potentially going to run into some more tangible issues?
