I am planning on making a Christmas gift this year that will (ideally) be radio-controlled. It should be very simple, with two servo channels only. I don't need a power or throttle channel and will not be adding an ESC or any other power control.

I have serious space constraints, so a small size is necessary. Ideally it can also work on a alkaline-powered 5V boost converter so I don't have to deal with charging electronics.

I see a few options on Amazon, but given the price point and (to me) unknown vendors, I have very little faith that they will work.

If anyone has any low-cost suggestions for a Rx, or even a cheap Tx, I would appreciate it. Almost any transmitter is going to be overkil

Nephew gets deployed in the next year (US); with 98% likelihood on an Arleigh Burke. I'm flirting with the idea of gifting him with a model of the ship (or at worst, a model of a Phalanx CIWS).

No, I don't know which ship, or even block; I know that will be an obstacle.

I'm looking for any recommendations either way, or even general discussion about the options. I know that Trumpeter makes a few cosmetic variants, but am not aware of other options.

I'm capable, but not an especially experienced modeler, especially in naval vehicles. However, resources, time, and effort shouldn't be a problem. That is, a simpler model would probably be better, but not at the expense of detail.

Thanks in a

Tinning with Solder Pot

Soldering Tool Feedback or Purchase Advice Request

I'm pretty sure this is a stupid idea, but I don't have the equipment to test it.

Has anyone successfully used, or seen someone successfully use a solder pot to tin an iron tip?

I don't think it would work, but I can't come up with a reason it wouldn't. If a tip tinner is risky because of the presence of, and exceptionally caustic flux, then wouldn't the same thing without flux be sufficient?

I solder relatively slowly, so I end up needing to tin fairly regularly; which ends up slowing me down even more. If I could just dip the tip instead of requiring my diminishing dexterity to melt enough solder, that would be great.

Best Lounge?

[Discussion]

I have an Armistice Bastion pass from before my hiatus for reasons I don't remember (probably a gem sale). It's useful but I miss being able to teleport in/out from the "real world", and the crafting stations aren't convenient to the TP/bank--but maybe that's common to all lounges.

Aside from wasting quite a few gems trying each lounge: what is your favorite or most convenient lounge and why?

The short question: Are all Tamiya Poly-Caps the same size?

Got the Tamiya 1:48 F-14 for Christmas. It was lovingly packed for me to carry home along with some other gifts, including a hastily-wrapped loaf of banana bread which I was unaware of. Setting it on the workbench with plans to unpack and sort things tomorrow, our cat decided the bread would make a great midnight snack. Thus, in the morning, I found a shredded box cover, sprues across the floor, and no sign of the "Screw Bag (Poly-Cap Included)".

I've reached out to Tamiya, but I've also found several poly-cap lots on eBay, for what I assume will be a lower price.

So, do I need **to use the parts from the exact kit;

I am being affected by this bug:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/can-not-run-docker-in-ubuntu22-04-container/72754/2

As I am running 24 LTS, I'm still waiting on the backport to be available despite all the real troubleshooting conversations being closed.

Where is the best place to track or monitor this progress so I can identify when the fix is available, instead of just obsessively checking for updates?

Note: I understand there are workarounds at the moment. I'm interested in the general approach, not necessarily an immediate fix to the specific problem.

TLDR: Neices and nephews love the NES; even the younger ones. However, their hand-eye coordination isn't quite there yet, and so the restarts after running out of lives get frustrating.

Does anyone have any recommendations for games that are simple or forgiving in this sense? Or perhaps a patch I can apply to a ROM?

Really, any ideas are helpful. At this point my only path is something like a Game Genie, but the codes mean I would have to get them started, instead of just inserting a cart.

I'm not looking for an objective rating--I know such a thing does not exist. I'm looking for a list of games in something close to a "acquire in this order" order.

I don't really think I'm ever going to collect every cart, and I have filled in most of my childhood memories, so what remains is games I have no firsthand knowledge of. I'd like to find a very basic evaluation of how well they were recieved, and ideally listed in that order.

Thanks,

I am planning on building an HDMI-capable NES for my modern media center. While that is the ultimate goal, I would also like this to be as much a build rather than a mod as possible--just for enjoyment.

Electronically, I think the ideal would be:

  • SMTendo
  • Power board
  • PPUDigitizer
  • RGBtoHDMI Mono & LumaCode with Audio

(I have a donor unit that is working, but aesthetically terrible)

However, the SMTendo is out-of-stock, and all the guides/tutorials use what seems to be an out-of-production version of the power board with an RCA jack instead of the 10-pin "Saturn 2" jack for output. That is, the guides I can find show a 2-wire connection running from the PPUDigitizer, to a "2-pin" RC

My HA installation is performing a reverse-DNS query against every IP in its subnet. I'm not sure when this started, but the behavior is at most one year old.

First, I'm sure I'm using the wrong terminology.

The specifics below don't matter, but I'm finding it hard to describe what I'm looking for without using them. I don't really care about the apps or the content types, I just want a solution.

I have a shared (CIFS) media folder into which several apps create or modify files (Radarr, Bazarr, Metadata managers, etc) and multiple clients consume.

However, I've discovered that one app (Radarr) is incredibly unfriendly about files in this directory, even if it isn't the creator. That is, it routinely deletes or overwrites other files in the same folder it's working in.

Unfortunately, the available workarounds are at best, partial solutions to t

A while ago someone posted a link to a Docker image that included NGINX as a reverse-proxy, already setup with things like fail2ban and other security features enabled. I thought I saved the link, but I was mistaken, or have since lost the link.

Can anyone re-share, or point me to similar alternatives?

PLEASE can someone help me find what setting is breaking my setup, or where to find help.

I've used Radarr for years with very good results. However, upon switching from Plex to Jellyfin, my metadata changes are no longer saved in a separate .nfo. I didn't think this would be a problem, but Radarr keeps stomping on my metadata--specifically, my sort_title customizations.

So I figured I would just turn off metadata in Radarr, and manually set it when a new movie is downloaded. This solved my sort_title issue, but now when Radarr updates a movie, it destroys everything--the updated movie is now in an empty folder, with no .nfo and no images. It feels like Radarr is deleting the folder en

I feel like there has been an uptick in how do you build / by bag or all-at-once / Knolling posts recently. From an efficiency standpoint, I'm not convinced that Knolling saves any time, but I do enjoy the pseudo-zen phase of sorting through all the parts for a build.

I have no idea how it took me this long, but during my recent Titanic build, I went a step farther and printed bins to take my Knolling to the next level:

I think the best part is how easy this makes rearranging the groups after being Knolled--keeping tiles

Handmaid's Tale

🇵🇸 🕊️ Art

I've been told for years that The Handmaid's Tale is a must-read, and a must-watch, but I've never taken the time to put it into my queue. I finally started the TV series a few weeks ago and am 3-4 episodes into the first season.

Does it get better?

I don't mean that it's bad TV, but it's almost debilitating to watch. I understand that this is largely the point of the work, but I have a hard time making it through more than half an episode in one sitting and even then come away depressed. Is it worth slogging through? Does it push through the "lets all experience how terrible this society is"?

I can see that maybe 6 years ago this felt cautionary, but now it just feels somewhere between
