No new knife :(

Discussion

It’s my favourite weapon and I am sad. Ignored for both the Mistlands and Ashlands, I had high hopes it would make a return in the Deep North, but alas.

Why?

Maybe this is a Navy-specific gripe. Hopefully my army peers get a bit more training?

I was just run through the C22 qual. Training took less than 2 hours. I can - or rather *could*, very briefly, once during the exam, last week - assemble the weapon, make it safe, perform a function test and clear a stoppage.

I asked for - and received - an additional 30 mins of 1-on-1 instruction time. Which while much appreciated by no means makes me anything like a competent operator.

And yet here I am, with the stupid MITE code in MM, and they can hand me a pistol and live rounds tomorrow and say “go forth and protect the ship”. I mean I’m not going to point it anywhere dumb and I know to take the

Our 12 month old has always had eczema, but it's getting to the point where it's unmanageable with over-the-counter creams. So I emailed our family doctor to ask for an appointment, and was quoted early to mid May for an appointment to get him seen!

Obviously we're going to take the poor guy to a walk-in clinic, but this isn't the first time this has happened - our doctor typically does books 4 to 6 weeks out and can't make exceptions for urgent issues.

...Is this normal here? Is this everyone else's experience? At this point we've seen walk-in doctors half a dozen times this year and our family doctor twice, and I really want to look for another option if something better is out there.

I built a CFHD calculator in Excel based on the updated CFHD bands and pay increments. You can use to compare CFHD and total compensation across NCM and Officer ranks in any location in Canada.

You'll need to create your own local copy to work with on Cryptpad or download a local copy to open in Excel. Instructions are included in the spreadsheet.

Hope this is helpful for some folks for the purposes of budgeting and career planning. Feel free to share and modify as you like.

Hey folks, I've been driving around in my Kia Carnival EX+ since May 2024 and thought I'd post a quick review. Mostly pros, some cons that I’ve saved for the end.

Driving:

  • The 3.5L V6 has more than enough power and is astonishingly quiet. Transmissions shifts are smooth – honestly I’m having to think hard to say something about the transmission because I almost never notice it while driving, which I think in a Minivan is probably the best compliment you can give!
  • Steering feel is a little lighter than I was used to, but now that I’ve had some more time with it’s absolutely fine.
  • Highway driving was suuuper comfortable. We drove 2,500km from Vancouver to Calgary and back across the Ro
