Help make YouTube more accessible for deaf and hard of hearing viewers!

r/CaptionPlease

We supply captions for popular (and probably short) youtube and vimeo videos. Everybody laughing about a vid, but you need captions to understand it? Post it here. Please include a link to the video you would like captioned or, if you want to volunteer, pick one and do it! We use www.amara.org as our main tool. It's easy and it works.

"The power of the web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."

-Tim Berners-Lee

We add captions to vids that haven't got any. We hope to be a useful tool in this community.

###WHAT CAN WE CAPTION?

The tools we use only really allow us to transcribe YOUTUBE and VIMEO vids.

That's YOUTUBE and VIMEO

###MAKING CAPTIONS IS EASY!

No really! There are some great tools out there, and captions are a great help to open the internet up to everybody.

###REQUEST CAPTIONS!

If captions can help you out, just ask! You know all those silly little videos that are all over the web, and all over reddit, and get so many votes but never have captions so you can only follow half the fun? The sillier the video, THE EASIER TO CAPTION! BRING IT ON! And please, include the title to the video in your post title**, or it is meaningless to everybody else who would like captions too.** One thing though, we're not really here to caption your youtube channel. We are here for the users.

###SO WHERE TO START?

See a request and go ahead and caption it. See resources below for how...

HERE ARE SOME RESOURCES

See the wiki for brief instructions on how to get a transcript off Youtube videos, including auto-generated ones.

http://amara.org/en/ is a great tool, with a good graphic and easy to follow set of tools. Here is and an instructional video series Here

of course CHECK OUT OUR WIKI!

We are putting up instructions on the best tools out there in the form of guides, and shared experiences.

Please do tell us if you find some good resources out there. We want all the best info

HELP PROMOTE!

The best way to make sure people know we exist is to tell them. Mention us out there on reddit!

ABUSE
Our volunteers are in short supply, and we are here to help, with open arms and open hearts. Repetitive requests for the same themed content by the same user will be considered abuse, removed, and trying to evade that will result in banning.
We are here to help redditors. New accounts can't post, sorry. Be even slightly part of the wider reddit community and you will be able to post. In that vein, accounts that only post on here and do not post on reddit will be treated as spam and removed. If you feel you are legit but can't post, message the mods with your case and we'll talk. I can't believe we need these rules, but there you go.
