Catharism

r/Cathar

The Cathars were a Gnostic influenced religious movement with mysterious origins that appeared in Europe in the early 11th century. Spreading through much of southern Europe and flourishing in southern France and northern Italy, it gained adherents among the nobility and common folk alike until the bloody persecutions of the Albigensian Crusade drove them underground and put a stop to its public practice. This subreddit is to discuss the both medieval and reconstructionist Cathar spirituality.
