Magick metal rockSS!

r/MagickMetal

Magick metal is a weird and obscure genre, which may be described as synth-based psychedelic rock fused with oldschool heavy/black metal. Guitar riffs are in traditional heavy/doom metal style. Drums are darkwave-ish and repetitive. Synthesizers and organs are heavily pronounced. Vocals range from black metal shrieks to folksy chants. Records are deliberately produced lo-fi and raw to enhance the dusty vibe. Lyrics mostly revolve around the occult, fringe ideologies and psychedelia.

Disclaimer: This subreddit is all about sharing music, please keep your ideological views out of it. I'm aware that some of these bands are banned from streaming services for using fascist/nazi imagery in their band names, song titles and cover art. Punk artists have been doing this since 80's for purely shock value. Censoring art for any reason is a shitty authoritarian reaction. This page does not support or advocate any kind of extremist political view, it's purely about aesthetics and music. My personal stance is equally distant to the boneheaded white power shit and "woke" cancel culture. Bringing any of those here will result in a ban.

Magick metal is a weird and obscure genre, which may be described as synth-based psychedelic rock fused with oldschool black metal. Guitar riffs are in traditional heavy/doom metal style. Drums are darkwave-ish and repetitive (may be electronic beats or real drums). Synthesizers and organs (like church organ) are heavily used and are usually more pronounced than guitars. Vocals vary greatly, from high-pitched screams to brutal grunts to monotone mumbling to folksy chants. Records are deliberately produced lo-fi and raw to enhance the dusty vibe. Lyrics mostly revolve around the occult, esoterism, fringe ideologies, medieval themes, conspiracy theories and psychedelia.

Black Magick SS is credited as the primary band defining the main characteristics of this genre. Also DeathFetish channel on YT deserves a huge credit for introducing us to the majority of these gems.
