Microscope is a "fractal roleplaying game" by Lame Mage Productions. It's amazingly fun and requires almost no preparation. Nor any dice. But don't let that throw you. (zing!) It's incredibly easy and makes a perfect intro to roleplaying games. You take a large chunk of history in any setting you want, and build that history by adding Periods (of time,) Events, and Scenes. The stories that Microscope creates are epic, and you'll want to play again and again.

Union, Chronicle, and Echo are spin-offs of Microscope, which help you focus on one particular aspect of a history. Union deals with a family history. Chronicle helps you zoom in on specific things. Echo explores alternate timelines.

Kingdom is a different game by the same creator, which deals with unfolding the story of a civilization by examining the crisis and/or decision points, or "crossroads," of that civilization.

We're going to be talking about all of them here.
