The more the populace is manipulated away from the ability to identify and agree on something approximating material reality, the closer society comes to collapse. The MisInformation Age is a an era when people and A.I. actively generate false realities and disrupt attempts to describe material reality.

Great thinkers through the ages have warned that once a populace is detached from reality, tyranny is soon to follow.

Some quotes:

"What the propaganda industry does is distract us and filter out key information to prevent us from becoming aware. If we do become aware, we will want to act, and then there's another layer of distraction and filtering, to keep us from becoming aware of effective actions." Ran Prieur

Once your faith, sir, persuades you to believe what your intelligence declares to be absurd, beware lest you likewise sacrifice your reason in the conduct of your life. In days gone by, there were people who said to us: "You believe in incomprehensible, contradictory and impossible things because we have commanded you to; now then, commit unjust acts because we likewise order you to do so." Nothing could be more convincing. Certainly any one who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices. If you do not use the intelligence with which God endowed your mind to resist believing impossibilities, you will not be able to use the sense of injustice which God planted in your heart to resist a command to do evil. Once a single faculty of your soul has been tyrannized, all the other faculties will submit to the same fate. This has been the cause of all the religious crimes that have flooded the earth. Voltaire

In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true…. Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow.

Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of the man who can fabricate it. Arendt
