“All villains need deep motivation” “All villains need tragic backstories” “All villains need to believe they are the heroes of their own stories” “All villains believe they are the good guys” “All villains need to be redeemable”
Is anyone else sick of these tropes being treated as the absolute rules of writing? They are all good tropes but they aren’t/shouldn’t be the only ways villains can be!
Ill be leaving out some details because i want the reveal to be surprising.
The character in question (lets call him Steve) is part of a race who are superior in almost everyway, physical strength that can send shockwaves when they throw a punch, perception and speed to be able to weave inbetween gunfire, magical ability that dwarfs that of the elves etc. My story is essentially a fantast setting split into two arcs. The first of which, the makn character Elizabeth is looking for these people that a clairvoyant witch told her would help her along her journey, and Steve is one of those people. How do i then write his character so that it shows hes powerful when compared to the others but not
Hi everyone! I (24f) just joined into this community. As a little backstory I have been writing fanfiction since my teen years. To date I am ashamed to say I have never truly finished a story as I always got disinterested in the fandoms.
I am currently on maternity leave awaiting my little bundle of joy to appear (due at the end of the month ) and I've decided that I want to write my own story's. I have always wanted to, but my faith in myself is not very strong and I worry my ideas may not be so good.
I used to write in first person but I am going to try for third person instead. I already have the story outlined and the prolonged written out.
I was just wanting to see if anyone had
Looking for a couple people who are interested in writing a fantasy/adventure story with me :) we could both write sections, and/or both come up with ideas and story details :)
I have a simple plot/idea I'm working with, but am just finding its so much more fun to collaborate with other people!
The story takes place in a world where all the people are hybrids of anything from animals to elements (Nymphs, bird people, characters with gemstone features, etc.) And it's a story about how a boy who doesn't know he is a prince, finds his way back to his origin kingdom and regains his rightful place as king. Along the way he meets other characters from other nations/species, and unites them all
I know the purpose of a character's death is to be an emotional scene and seeing how the MC reacts. But i feel like if i kill off a random character, it would feel unnecessary, jarring and unimpactful. Sorry if I said this in a way that doesn't make sense but i hope you can lend me some advice anyway
