Welcome! Brightgreen is a place for constructive, evidence-based discussion of environmental problems and solutions. We’re interested in pragmatic ways to keep the environment safe for humans and vice versa, with maximal information and minimal sensationalism.

The name is from this phrase, but that’s only suggestive, not definitional.

As with any small subreddit, your submissions, comments, and votes make a big difference in what other people get out of it. Unlurk!

Link and comment guidelines:

We encourage fact-based, substantive news and analysis. Philosophical, speculative, and narrative pieces are welcome as long as they aren’t pure fluff. Please respect your fellow readers’ time, intelligence, and goodwill.

Besides obvious things like name-calling, we discourage reports of wrongdoing that aren’t accompanied by insightful commentary.

Basically, this is not the place to break the news of an oil spill – it’s the place to talk about ambitious plans to prevent oil spills.

Self-linking (to organizations you work with) is fine. In fact, if you answer people’s questions about it, it’s a mitzvah.

The words after some people’s names are their relevant qualifications, experience, or perspectives (according to them). Get your own here.

Let’s grow! If you see something in r/worldpolitics, r/skeptic, r/environment, r/neutralpolitics, or anywhere else that might appreciate the Brightgreen perspective, give us a plug! Invite your friends!
