Americana is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including Country & Western, Roots-Rock, American Folk, Bluegrass, R&B and Blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw.

r/DarkAmericana seeks to catalog atmospherically dark, downtrodden, and depressed Americana and Roots, as well as other forms of American Heritage music such as Cajun & Creole, Zydeco, Tejano, Spirituals, Honky-Tonk, Ragtime, and Appalachian Folk.
