free·gan /ˈfrēɡən/

noun

a person who rejects consumerism and seeks to help the environment by reducing waste, especially by retrieving and using discarded food and other goods.

Freeganism is the practice reusing/fixing old items, purchasing used when possible, and the reclaiming and eating food that has been discarded.

Freegans and Freeganism are often seen as part of a wider "anti-consumerist" ideology, and freegans often employ a range of alternative living strategies based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources.

Freegans "embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed."

NOTE: Freegan food does not have to be vegan, vegetarian, natural, etc... its requirement is that it needs to be salvaged, free, or home grown. If you salvaged a box of frozen burgers or grew a garden to help your family then power to you we'd love to hear about it.
