r/gapyear

Taking a gap year means to purposefully "put your life on pause" and spend your time doing something meaningful - generally between high school and university, or sometimes between finishing university and seeking work. Gap years can involve travel, volunteering, developing skills or simply the pursuit of hobbies. People who take gap years are generally young adults between 18-24. This is the place to discuss things to do on your gap year or get career advice related to your gap year.

The Gap Year, traditionally a British trend where 18 year old school-leavers go travelling for a year before continuing on to University.

Nowadays, the term can refer to anyone from any country of any age taking any length of time off from their normal life to go and see the world! Anything from volunteering in an orphanage in Ghana to working in a bar in Sydney counts.
