Music Production & Engineering at Berklee!

r/mpe

I'm hoping this can act as a constructive place for Music Production & Engineering majors to learn from each other and help each other out.

The idea with this subreddit is to have a relaxed, constructive, and non-judgemental forum where MP&E kids can ask for help, advice, and occasionally post a meme or two.

Some examples for what types of posts would be fantastic and welcome, and should be upvoted:

I've got a 2-6 session, anyone wanna come assist?
Who wants to mix/engineer my 318/320/etc project?
B is open all night, does anyone want to try and doublebook 2-6 time to record a band?
I'm recording a string quartet tonight and I have no idea what microphones/placement choices/preamps to use! Help?
It turns out that my artist can't make my basics session, but only 2-6 sessions slots are left. Does anybody want to switch?
What teacher should I take ___ class with?

Does anyone know a vocalist that I can use for a soundalike of _____ ?
I'm super fucked, guys. Please help me try and get this one piece of practice time that my artist can make. Otherwise I won't finish tracking before the mix time. Or, does anyone have time I could switch them for? What about a place I could record or a mic I can borrow? Help me not fail please.
Holy shit free plugin promo from NI, check it out!
I know an artist looking to record! Here's their info!
Here's a host of my mix on soundcloud, advice and criticism please?

Listen to my band!

Help me with my take-home midterm

It's very important to me that we maintain academic honesty here. Asking for mix advice is fine, but try not to do that when it's your final or midterm mix for a class? Or any graded mix, honestly. I want the mpe department to be down with this page, let's not post anything that compromises that.

At some point, I'm going to introduce flair to the group (awesome boxed text next to your name that shows the highest level of engineering/mixing you've hit, so people can ask questions from qualified peers, etc. I'll do that once this group takes off a bit more.)

I'm also enabling a group wiki. It will probably take some time before I get to it, but it exists and I think will be a really valuable resource once it takes off.

Have fun, happy posting/learning/redditing! If anyone is here because of the post on the mpe facebook page, feel free to message me with questions about how to use reddit. I'm not a super experienced user, but I can probably answer any questions you'll have.
