"Immortal" an MTG Format

r/mtgEternal

This is a forum to discuss the new upcoming fan made eternal format that does not include the restricted list. Wizard wants us to do it. See here: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/ways-play/making-your-own-magic-format-2016-02-17 I envision this as what modern is supposed to be. The only reason we play modern instead of legacy is because of availability and cost of cards. We deserve a non-rotating format with reasonably priced cards.

Philosophy/Reasoning:

Eternal magic is a competitive format that does not include reserved list cards. The popularity of modern comes from the mix of power level and availability of cards. There is no doubt that players wish to play legacy as it is a much more complex and intuitive format. With the upcoming set EMA, there will be a large influx of cards available to be played in eternal formats, however the barrier will always be the restricted list cards which we have already seen spike beyond reason. The fact is that new supply of these cards will never be made and we as a community must adapt to that. This format will not be legacy, and it will not be modern. It will evolve it's own meta-game with cards that need to be removed from the format or added as appropriate. This will be done as a community.

Rules:

Eternal is a constructed format and therefore adheres to the following constructed rules:

-Minimum of sixty cards

-No maximum deck size, as long as you can shuffle your deck unassisted

-Up to fifteen cards in your sideboard, if used

With the exception of basic lands (Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest), your combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title equivalent.

Note: The five snow-covered lands from the Ice Age block—Snow-Covered Plains, Snow-Covered Island, Snow-Covered Swamp, Snow-Covered Mountain, and Snow-Covered Forest—are also basic lands. Snow-covered lands are only permitted in formats that allow expansions from the Ice Age block.

Legacy decks may consist of cards from all Magic card sets, plus the following cards: Sewers of Estark, Windseeker Centaur, and Nalathni Dragon (Mana Crypt would also be included were it not currently banned—see below).

Cards from expansions and special sets (like From the Vault, Magic: The Gathering—Commander, Duel Decks, Conspiracy, etc.) are legal in the Legacy format on the date of release of the expansion or special set.

Original Banned List: The ban list starting point should be the ban list for legacy as it currently stands. This will be looked at in the future to see what else needs to be changed.

The following cards are banned in Eternal tournaments:

All cards from the reserved list
All cards of the card type "Conspiracy"
All cards dealing with Ante
