I downloaded 8.8.9 manually from the website in Dec/Jan 2026 because of the report. Now there is a new hackernews report... do I need to download a new fix? I don't understand what the new compromise is
The Bank is in the EU. When I started to work I asked Notepad++ to be installed and they installed it. I don't have administrative rights. In recent days I have heard that they will no longer allow Notepad++ in new installations. What might be the reason for that?
Notepad++ project names new release the "Free Uyghur" edition, issues page is promptly swamped by the 50 Cent Army's volunteer brigade.
old.reddit.com/r/Drama/comments/dp86oe/notepa...I find it a bit weird that the only recommendation after this attack is to manually download the latest update.
Does that mean it should already be blatantly obvious if we were targeted and infected?
I already
- matched the correct checksums of my temp folder exe files(unsure if any were deleted)
- Have no suspicious logins despite potentially being compromised for ~5 months & logging into every site possible
- I don't see any hidden "Bluetooth" folders either (Rapid7 breakdown of the update exe)
- No positives from virus scans too, if they can even find anything related.
The only thing I'm not really 100% on is checking the possible Idicators of Compromise(IoC) from Rapid7, such as all
Notepad++ Code Editor Comes to Mac After 20-Year Wait - MacRumors
macrumors.com/2026/04/29/notepad-plus-plus-ed...I personally dont have np++ installed.
Back in december, I told my friends and sibling about it. My sibling was not really often home and he did not respond to my post.
Today he asked me to check something on his pc and I used the chance to check if he has np++ installed.
Under Apps, I found np++ 8.3.3. from 17.07.2025.
I thought myself, welp sh*t. I disconnected the pc from the lan and disabled "auto update" inside np++. I also moved the files from the updater folder to a new folder inside the np++ installation.
Then I began to research. In his downloads folder there is "npp.8.8.2.Installer.x64.exe" from 17.07.25 (althought 8.8.3 was already realeased at this time).
Now I ask myself,

Best together with Everything from void tools.
Yes, all bc I still have to deal with this windowful OS.
I thought I would post this, since it might help somebody. Recently I had to give up using Notepad++, which is a great text editor, because whenever I hit ENTER, an alert would pop up to tell me that I had a syntax error or had used an unrecognized character (or something like that). This happened, no matter what kind of text I was typing.
With some research I figured out that the problem might have to do with a plug-in that was malfunctioning. I had the "PyCalc" plug-in installed, and I think that it is something that I installed not long ago, though I am not sure.
Anyway, I removed the PyCalc plug-in, and the pop-up alert stopped appearing. I will hasten to point out that I had not sel
