We may have made our AI architecture too visible.

Business OS currently has eight specialized AI roles.

There’s a Main AI for coordination, Finance AI, Operations AI, Risk AI, Sales, Marketing, HR and a Data Curator.

When we designed it, the separation made sense. Finance shouldn’t reason about a request the same way Operations does. Different roles need different context, permissions and responsibilities.

But there’s a product problem hiding inside that architecture:

Why should the user care?

If someone wants to know why a project is delayed, they probably don’t want to decide whether to ask Operations AI, Finance AI or the Main AI.

They just want the answer.

And if answering it requires operational data, an overdue invoice and context from another part of the business, choosing the right agents should probably be our problem, not theirs.

That has made us question how much of the multi-agent architecture should actually be visible.

There’s a strong temptation with AI products to expose the machinery because it makes the product look sophisticated.

Eight agents sounds more impressive than one input box.

But sophisticated architecture doesn’t automatically create a better interface.

We could keep the specialization underneath while making the experience feel much simpler: the user asks one question, the system figures out which roles and context are needed, and the answer comes back without requiring them to understand our internal architecture.

The downside is that hiding everything creates a different problem.

If Finance AI and Operations AI have genuinely different responsibilities and boundaries, making them invisible can make it harder for users to understand who did what, what information was used and what authority the AI actually had.

So we're stuck between two pretty different ideas:

Expose the agents, and users have to understand the architecture.

Hide them, and the system becomes simpler but potentially less transparent.

I'm increasingly convinced that users shouldn't have to understand how many agents exist at all.

But I'm not completely sold on it.

If you were using a multi-agent product, would you want to know which agent handled your request — or would you rather never see the agents unless something goes wrong?
