Are there any founding fathers who have commented on the Mormons and Joseph Smith ?

During Joseph Smith's ministry, which began in 1820 and ended with his death in 1844, a significant number of the American Founding Fathers were still alive. I wonder if any of them talk or wrote about Mormon movement.
