Subreddit updates: introducing the Alouders chat channel, plus a quick word about ticket sales
Greetings, dear Alouders, and happy summer to all of you (or at least the northern hemisphere part of this subreddit)! Our girls are in the middle of their long-awaited tour and they still have one whole month full of shows all across the UK. Have you been to any of the concerts, or are you still yet to see them? A friendly reminder that we have created an individual megathread for each concert day that you can still use to post literally any relevant information regarding the shows (except for tickets, but more on that later). You can navigate those by applying the "2024 Tour" post flair filter.
Now for the juicy part - earlier this year Reddit has introduced a brand-new function - group chats within communities (the official name for this feature is chat channels). We are proud to announce that our community has successfully launched the Alouders chat channel! A Reddit-meets-Whatsapp group-meets-Discord, It is intended to serve as a companion and possibly an alternative to our subreddit's monthly random chat threads (even though those usually get very low engagement, we're still not planning to get rid of them at this point; the reason is because the chat channel feature is still on its beta testing stage and if Reddit decides to abruptly pull the plug on it, what else are we going to use as this subreddit's dumping ground for rare random posts and casual chatter?) Anyway, go join the sub's chat channel by simply saying hi or whatever it is you want to share (you must leave a comment to enter the chat), spread the word about it and don't forget to invite your fellow Alouders who still aren't there!
Finally, a few words about the resale of tickets. As you already know, it has been prohibited on our subreddit since last week. The rules on buying/selling on Reddit are quite hazy - the official Reddit stance is "your subreddit - your rules"; at the same time, Reddit's automod feature never sleeps and it's always on the lookout for posts and comments that are dead set on scamming you out of your hard-earned money. An increased amount of flagged content on one subreddit can lead to an unannounced shutdown, which is exactly what happened to r/Alouders just over a week ago. We were able to come back online very quickly this time around, but a second shutdown might lead to more severe consequences and we could go dark for a very long time.
However, there is still some hope for all the Girls Aloud fans on this subreddit who are looking to part ways with their tickets or get in to see the show for cheaper after all! This is where the new chat channel function comes in handy - conveniently, one of the sample chats that Reddit offers is dedicated precisely towards the buying/selling function. We will definitely explore this option in more detail and we might even allow ticket sales again in the future via a dedicated chat channel, so stay tuned.
tl;dr: Looking forward to seeing your tour stuff - info, pictures, videos, merch - in megathreads and in separate posts as well, and see you in the Alouders group chat!
If you have any ideas, suggestions, comments related to the way our subreddit functions, don't hesitate to let the mod team know any time. As our community gets bigger, we also strive to be better, so your input is simply invaluable.
Happy June, dear Alouders, and we hope you enjoy the Girls Aloud Show ❤️
