A little-known fact about the structural integrity of weighted blankets.
One thing I wish more people knew about weighted blankets is that the stitching is part of the weight distribution system, not just decoration.
Over the years, I’ve seen blankets that felt fine when new but eventually developed heavy spots because the internal pockets weren’t holding the fill evenly. Once the weighted material starts migrating, you can end up with sections that are much heavier than others, which also puts extra stress on the seams.
When I’m checking one, I pay close attention to the size and consistency of the quilted pockets and how securely the fill is contained. Smaller, evenly constructed pockets generally do a better job of keeping the weight distributed.
I’ve had customers blame the fill when the real problem was simply poor internal construction. With weighted blankets, how the weight is held can matter just as much as what creates the weight.
