Vanilla Bean lip balm smells bad now?

so I made a post earlier about contacting burt's bees about an issue I had with their product. the issue was that the Vanilla Bean lip balm started to like stink, even though I had just bought it, opened it and started using it. Did I just get a bad batch or did anyone else buy this recently and experience the same thing? I was very disappointed because I had always heard people raving about how good it smelled. I wanted to play it safe trying burt's bees for the first time so I went with what I assumed could never smell bad, vanilla, but I assumed wrong I guess. what could be causing the smell like a garbage like smell? (I'm not that good at describing smells but it just smells very uncharacteristic of what a vanilla lip balm should smell like)
