Most traders think trading is about finding the right setup. It's not. It's about being in the right state before you act on one.

Here are the 6 states I see traders (including past me) operate from:

1. Confident and prepared ✅
You've reviewed your bias, key levels are marked, your setup checks out. You know your entry, stop, and target before you touch the order button. This is the only state you should be trading from.

2. FOMO / impulsive ❌
Price is ripping and you're jumping in because you don't want to miss it. The setup didn't call you — panic did.

3. Revenge mode ❌
You just took a loss and now you need to make it back. You're not looking for a setup. You're looking for a rematch.

4. Hesitant / second-guessing ❌
The setup looks okay but something feels off. You don't fully trust it. Trading from doubt is just gambling with extra steps.

5. Overconfident ❌
Three green days in a row and suddenly you're sizing up and skipping your checklist. Drawdowns are born here.

6. Distracted / unprepared ❌
No prep done, no clear bias, just watching charts hoping something speaks to you. The market will answer — just not the way you want.

The gap between state 1 and states 2–6 isn't talent. It's process.

That's exactly why Candlestick TradePal was built to give traders the structure to show up in state 1 consistently:

* Session Prep Notes: so you're never sitting down cold
* Candlestick Pattern Recognition Guide - so you read charts with confidence
* Trade Setup Grader: so emotion doesn't override your criteria
* 10 Trading Commandments: your rules, written and enforced
* Price & Percent-Based Trade Planners: so risk is calculated before the trade, not after
* Trading Journal + Trade Review Hub: so you catch which state you were in when things went wrong

Which of these 6 states do you find yourself in most often? Drop it in the comments.

There are 6 states you can be in before placing a trade. Only one of them should lead to an entry.
