With the release of update 1.9, I decided to finally do something I have been wanting to do for awhile, and that is making the codebase be Open Core. CodeGrind (the public facing frontend repo) is currently released under a business source license that will transition to an Apache 2.0 license in 2030.

After moving off of azure to stop paying microsoft money (I went from $120+ a month to $0 a month now), I decided it was time to do some code cleanup and also finally just make the codebase (partially) open source.

I want to be transparent with people, and the only way to do that is to let people see the code. It's still a bit of a mess, I have more refactoring to do, there are open issues on the repo, but I know that I will handle it eventually.... there's just always a million things to do as a developer every day.

If you want to learn how I saved a bunch of money check out the blogpost to learn more about the microservice migration here: [https://rivie13.github.io/blog/2026/07/09/codegrind-goes-open-core-and-the-0-infra-migration/](https://rivie13.github.io/blog/2026/07/09/codegrind-goes-open-core-and-the-0-infra-migration/)

CodeGrind is now Open Core! And also how I stopped paying Microsoft money.
