So I purchased this quarter in haste. I fully admit that. I logged on, did a search for auctions ending soonest, saw the coin and the title, saw less than 30 seconds on the clock, and I made a bid and won.

It is from a reputable seller. No doubt there. Here are my questions, and they are for my own knowledge, no other reasons.

First, the title said the coin was uncirculated. Now, I am still fairly new to collecting, and I certainly don't know it all. I noticed some sizeable dings and scratches on both sides of the coin. It is a very pretty coin, and aside from those few dings and scratches, it looks really good. Are those marks I see common on uncirculated coins, or could it have been mismarked? Again, just curious for my own knowledge moving forward.

Second, it wasn't in the title, but in the item description, it said that this coin had been cleaned. So, that leads me to several questions. Why would someone clean an uncirculated coin? Simply a lack of knowledge, or just plain stupidity? How much does cleaning a coin devalue it? Is it completely undesirable and unwanted by collectors once it's been cleaned?

I bought the coin in haste. I didn't get to thoroughly evaluate the pics. My fault. I also didn't read the description, due to time, so didn't see that the coin had been cleaned. Again, my fault. I bid on the coin, so I bought it. No dispute there. I paid just over melt, so not overly concerned about it. Just trying to educate myself. Thanks!!
