Should you expect to lose your first funded account?

Question

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. But does that saying really hold up under prop firm rules?

Some traders lose their first funded account right away. Others never even make it past the challenges. And then there are those who secure it on the first try. What actually separates these groups?

Is it: •Having a mentor who’s been through the trenches? •Refining and personalizing your trade plan? •Building a backtesting routine that keeps your edge sharp? •Or being part of a trading community that truly wants to see you win?

I’ll go first: I failed my first funded account and I’m over 50% in drawdown on my second. That’s when I sought mentorship. My current mentor lost 3 funded accounts and failed challenges back-to-back before turning things around. That made me trust the process. The private community I joined doesn’t sell hype, flex cars, or fake lifestyles, just real expectations and consistent wins stacked quietly.

So… what’s your story? Did you pass or blow your first funded account and what made the difference?
