Interesting Data: Top Non-Collectible Miniature Lines 2010 - 2025 ICv2 (aka Top tabletop games by estimated sales)

Googling around today, I found some interesting market data on the most popular miniature lines from 2010–2025.

This data comes from ICv2, which from my research looks to be a reliable trade publication focused on the tabletop gaming industry. They interview retailers, distributors, and manufacturers to gauge what's selling and what isn't, then publish rankings based on those findings.

Here's the Fall 2025 sales chart:

Interesting Data (2010 - 2025 ICv2 Reports):

  • From fall 2015–2017, Star Wars: X-Wing ranked higher than 40K in estimated sales. This is the only period I found in which Warhammer 40K was not ranked #1 in sales.
  • Even more interesting, X-Wing fell off the list entirely by 2020 and did not appear in the Top 10 in 2025.....X-Wing fans what happened?
  • Age of Sigmar has been remarkably consistent over the last 7 years, fluctuating between #5 and #2. I know AoS has had its problems, but I think it's been an overall success just looking at this data.
  • BattleTech peaked at #2 in 2025 but has a spotty history, failing to appear in the Top 5 in most years. I always thought BattleTech was historically far more popular than this data suggests.
  • Aside from Warhammer (AoS and 40K), not many games have managed to stay in the Top 5 year after year. It explains why GW feels comfortable pricing its products at a premium. Competition hasn't been consistent enough to eat into its market share. Warmachine is the game I've seen most consistently over the years, and I know from talking with players in that community that things haven't always been perfect there either.
  • I'm shocked The Old World didn't crack the Top 10. Back in 2010, Warhammer Fantasy ranked #3, just behind Warmachine. I'm surprised the nostalgia and return to GW's roots haven't been enough to push the game into the Top 10.

This is a departure from my usual deal posts, but I'm a stats nerd, and I thought some of you might find this interesting too.
