How do you effectively train employees on SOPs without boring them to death?
This is a common challenge — and good on you for recognizing it early. A well-written SOP is only half the battle; training is where the buy-in happens.
BUT successful SOP training requires a fundamental mindset shift from "we have documentation" to "we build process competence."
The Traditional Approach:
- Create documentation for reference
- Make it available to everyone
- Expect people to find and use it
- Consider the job done once documents exist
The Process Competence Approach:
- Create documentation as a training foundation
- Actively introduce people to relevant procedures
- Build systems that bring information to people when needed
- Consider the job done only when procedures are consistently followed
Sooooo the key is using technology to help train teams by delivering the knowledge when and where they need it.
