Perfect in One

Devotion: "Perfect in One"

Scripture: “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” — John 17:23 (KJV)

THOUGHTS: In His final hours before the cross, Jesus prayed not only for His disciples but for all believers who would come to know Him. This verse is part of that sacred prayer—a glimpse into the heart of the Son communing with the Father. And what He asks is profound: that we, His followers, would be so united with Him and with one another that the world would see God's love clearly.

Jesus says, “I in them, and thou in me…”—a divine chain of connection. The Father dwells in Christ, and Christ dwells in us. This is more than spiritual poetry; it's the foundation of our identity. When Christ lives in us, we are not just improved—we are transformed. We are being made "perfect in one"—not through our efforts, but through His abiding presence.

This oneness is not uniformity, but unity. It’s not about being the same, but being connected by the same Spirit. And the purpose of this unity is evangelistic: “that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”

Let that settle in: God loves you as He loves Jesus. This is not a lesser, watered-down affection. It’s the same eternal, perfect love that has always existed within the Trinity. When we live in Christ, that love becomes visible to the world.

So today, ask yourself: am I allowing Christ to live fully in me? Do I pursue unity with other believers, even when it's inconvenient or uncomfortable? Through His indwelling presence and love, we are being made whole—together.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the incredible gift of Your love. Thank You that through Jesus, You have chosen to dwell in me. Help me to live in a way that reflects Your unity and peace. Teach me to love others with the same grace and patience You have shown me. Let my life be a testimony to the world that You sent Jesus and that Your love is real, powerful, and present. Make me an instrument of unity, a vessel of Your presence, and a witness of Your perfect love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
