EU citizens getting married in Denmark → UK spouse visa timeline?
Hi everyone,
My partner and I are both EU citizens and have been in a genuine relationship for some time. He lives in the UK and I live in another European country. Due to slower bureaucracy in our home countries, and because we’d like to live together in the UK as soon as possible, it seems that getting married in Denmark is the fastest and most affordable option for us.
Our plan is to get married in Denmark around May–June 2026, and once the marriage is legally recognised, apply for a UK spouse visa so I can move to the UK and live with him. (Yes, we meet all the requirements)
For those of you who have gone through a similar process, I’d really appreciate your insights:
• Denmark marriage process:
How far in advance would you recommend starting the application if we’re aiming for May–June? Roughly how long does the whole process take if everything is done correctly? And did any of you use an agency, and was it worth it?
• UK spouse visa:
After getting married, how long did it take you to receive approval for the spouse visa and actually move to the UK?
I also understand there is an English language requirement: does the test need to be taken in the UK, or can it be done in the country you apply from?
Thanks in advance for any help or experiences you’re willing to share. Any tips or recommendations are very welcome!
