Trump’s NASA Pick Jared Isaacman Faces Scrutiny Over Past Casino Debt Lawsuits
Billionaire Jared Isaacman, best known for leading a private SpaceX mission, is now facing fresh attention over old casino debts as he awaits Senate approval to head NASA. President Donald Trump recently nominated Isaacman, 42, to lead the agency, but his past legal issues with casinos are resurfacing.
In the mid-2000s, Isaacman faced multiple lawsuits for unpaid casino debts. The Trump Taj Mahal sued him in 2009 for $1 million in bad checks, ending in a $650,000 settlement. Around the same time, Mohegan Sun Casino also filed a case, but it was later dropped. In a separate incident, Isaacman was held at the Canadian border in 2010 over fraud claims tied to a dispute with the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, which was later resolved.
During his Senate hearings, Isaacman admitted that he was young and reckless with gambling when his business first took off, but stressed that all legal matters were settled long ago.
Despite the controversy, the White House continues to back him, citing his leadership skills and his experience pushing the boundaries of space exploration. The Senate Commerce Committee will vote on his nomination on April 30.
