What actually makes a funnel convert well?

Pinned

A lot of discussions around funnels usually focus on tools or builders, but I’m more curious about the actual strategy behind funnels that convert.

Many marketers use platforms like GoHighLevel, ClickFunnels, or WordPress with different funnel plugins. But after a certain point, the builder itself doesn’t seem to matter that much.

From what I’ve seen, the real difference often comes from things like:

• Offer positioning
• Funnel step structure (lead magnet → tripwire → core offer)
• Follow-up automation
• Page load speed
• Trust signals and social proof
• Traffic intent

For example, some funnels are extremely simple, just a landing page and checkout yet they convert better than complex multi-step funnels.

On the other hand, I’ve also seen funnels with 5–6 steps that perform well because the audience needs more warming up before buying.

So I’m curious how experienced marketers here think about this.

A few questions I’d love to hear opinions on:

• What funnel structure has worked best in your experience?
• Do shorter funnels convert better now?
• How important is follow-up automation compared to the page itself?
• Are funnels becoming less important compared to audience building?

Interested to hear how others are approaching funnels in future.
