holding shift to capitalize

currently on ver 4.1, recentlg updated from ver 3.9

on previous versions, i was able to hold shift to capitalize while typing without enabling caps lock and let go of shift to return to lowercase whenever i wanted

on 4.1, it seems like i can't do that when i'm at the beginning of a text entry field or sentence (after a period). like whatever i want to capitalize has to be after the first character typed in either of those scenarios

is there a setting to change this to behave like it did on previous version?
