Chapter 3 – Alastor’s Return, Velvet’s Message, and the Price of a Collar

The Hellscape Hotel breathed in heavy, velvet sighs that night. Its halls pulsed with flickering neon veins and silent whispers through the walls—voices of past sins, sweet deals, and regrets dressed in silk.

Destiny Lovelust stared at herself in the cracked vanity mirror of her room, tugging lightly at the edges of her white crop top like it might help her think. Her halo, faint and flickering these days, hovered crookedly above her head. Her skin still tingled from the camera lights. The film had been… fun. Surreal. Hot.

Her lips curled upward as she remembered Angel’s fingers running down her thigh while Valentino directed from behind the lens with a hungry smile.

“Good, baby. Real good. You’re natural sin in motion.”

Destiny let out a small laugh, equal parts amused and annoyed. “All that over a fake moan and good lighting.”

She should feel something else—shame? Guilt? Regret?

But no. All she felt was heat… and the faint curl of discontent in her gut. Something gnawed at her—not the sex, never the sex—but the offer. Valentino had nearly roped her in right then and there with that soul contract, shiny and binding like a wedding ring to Hell itself.

“You sign, sugar, and you’ll never be alone again. Always working. Always adored. Always wanted.”

It had been Raziel who’d stepped in, thank Lucifer.

He’d pulled her away with a lie about needing her for “registration details.” But then they’d sat at the bar, and he’d bought her a drink that tasted like stardust and sin.

“You don’t sign anything with Valentino until you understand what he’s really buying,” he’d said, eyes locked on hers. “It won’t be your body he’s after. It’ll be your obedience.”

Destiny had smirked, lips still tingling from Angel’s kisses. “What if I want to give that to someone?”

Raziel had gone still, golden eyes shadowed. “Then be sure they deserve it.”

And now here she was. Shirt wrinkled, wings half-folded, and her reflection twitching faintly in the mirror.

She pressed a hand against the glass.

But the reflection didn’t follow.

Instead, it grinned.

Glitching static whispered into the air, distorting the room’s reality in one pixelated ripple. The voice that followed was sugary and sing-song—like a child’s dream coated in blood.

“Hello, little sugar-wing~ Miss me?”

Destiny’s breath caught.

Velvet.

Not dead. Not gone.

The mirror flickered with images—candy-colored static forming Velvet’s too-wide smile, the lollipop still lodged in the corner of her mouth like a threat. Her eyes were neon voids, trailing streaks of purple light and corrupted data.

“You’re so pretty. And new. And doomed. Just like the last angel who thought she could play house here. You remember her? No? That’s because she’s dust now.”

Destiny clenched her fists. “You’re not real.”

Velvet tilted her head in the mirror.

“Aren’t I, though? You feel real. Your shame’s real. That itch behind your pretty eyes, the one that wonders if you belong anywhere? That’s me, baby. And guess what? I’m coming back. The Vees were never gone… we just broke into the walls.”

The mirror shattered into laughter—then static.

Destiny stumbled back, chest heaving.

Down in the lobby, the air grew colder.

The elevator dinged with a dramatic buzz, and Alastor stepped out with his usual shit-eating smile, one hand curled theatrically around a cane that didn’t touch the ground.

“Ah, home sweet purgatory!” he sang.

Behind him emerged a towering presence of fire and fury—curved horns gleaming, wings unfurling like shadows under brimstone light.

Sammy Nevermore.

Her red scales shimmered under the heat of her own inferno, black armor biting into her body like a second skin. She looked like war, and she walked like desire.

Nifty skittered across the floor in a cleaning frenzy, then paused mid-sprint.

“Woah! Who lit the thermostat on dragon lust tonight?!”

Husk didn’t even look up from wiping the counter. “Great. More fire hazards.”

Sammy ignored both of them. Her glowing amber eyes scanned the room, then locked onto Alastor with laser focus. She stepped closer—slow, deliberate, reverent.

“I owe you everything, Radio Demon,” she said, voice like molten steel. “My soul is yours.”

Alastor gave a mock bow, tipping his nonexistent hat. “And I shall wear it proudly, dear Sammy. Welcome to the Hotel.”

Back in the bar, Raziel Orderborn sat brooding with his drink again.

He could still see Destiny’s face—those smug eyes trying not to flinch at the contract. That laugh, even after a film that would’ve broken other angels.

She wasn’t like the others.

And that made her dangerous.

He didn’t know yet if he wanted to save her… or ruin her.

He downed the last of his drink.

One thing was certain:

By the end of her stay here, Destiny Lovelust would either be his—

—or she’d belong to Hell.
