How do you choose the right hot pads for your kitchen ?

Last night I was helping my mother in the kitchen while she was preparing dinner for guests. When she picked up a hot pot she quickly asked me to bring a hot pad because the old one was too thin. I realized we never really thought about buying good hot pads even though we use them every day. My sister said we should get better ones before the next family gathering.

We went to a local store nearby but there were only a few options. Most of them looked plain and the material did not feel very thick. The colors were limited and the sizes were almost the same. Then my brother suggested we should check online to see if there were more choices. While casually scrolling online marketplaces including alibaba I was surprised by the variety. There were cotton hot pads silicone ones quilted designs and even decorative sets in many price ranges. Some were simple and cheap and some looked stylish and durable. It made me think how many useful options we miss when we only visit local shops.

Now I am wondering how people usually choose hot pads. Do you focus more on material size or design and do you prefer buying them online or from local stores ?
