Option selling naturally provides frequent, small wins due to time decay. This constant positive reinforcement creates a dangerous dopamine loop, masking the true underlying risk and setting the trader up for a massive fall when the cycle changes.

1. The Dopamine Drip

  • The Logic: Option selling naturally provides frequent, small wins due to time decay. This constant positive reinforcement creates a dopamine loop, making the trader feel invincible and causing them to ignore the actual underlying risk of the position.
  • The Reality: Roz chote-chote profit dekh kar dimaag ko aadat pad jati hai. Aapko lagne lagta hai ki aapne market ko hack kar liya hai, aur aap overconfident hokar apna risk badha dete hain.

2. Ignoring the Outlier Risk

  • The Logic: Because the system easily wins 8 or 9 days out of 10, the trader subconsciously assumes the 1 losing day will be just as mild and manageable. They fail to mathematically prepare for the statistical outlier that hits exponentially harder.
  • The Reality: 10 mein se 9 din profit aata hai, toh lagta hai 10va din (loss wala din) bhi normal hi hoga. Par reality mein us ek kharab din ka nuksan itna bada hota hai jo lagataar aane wale chote profits ki aukaat yaad dila deta hai.

3. Sizing Up at the Worst Time

  • The Logic: False confidence inevitably leads to aggressive position scaling just before the market cycle changes. A trader builds their ego in a calm, low-volatility environment and doubles their lot size right as a high-volatility expansion begins.
  • The Reality: Ek baat clear kar lo—Chote profit se confidence aana acchi baat hai, par ego aana khatarnak hai. Profit ke nashe mein aakar quantity achanak badha dena sabse badi galti hoti hai, kyunki market jab palat-ta hai toh badi quantity account saaf kar deti hai.

🛠️ My View:

  • The Illusion of Mastery: Consistent small wins do not mean you are a market genius; they simply mean you are successfully harvesting a structural edge in a quiet environment. Do not confuse a forgiving market with personal skill.
  • The Real Benchmark: True skill is tested on the exact day the winning streak ends. Can you take a predefined, structural loss without hesitation, or does the shock of a red screen freeze your execution?
  • The Process: Never scale up your position size purely based on a winning streak or emotional highs. Increase your lot size only when your overall capital base and risk parameters dictate it mathematically.

Stop letting small daily wins inflate your ego. Respect the outlier risk, keep your position sizing strictly mathematical, and never confuse a quiet market with trading mastery.
