Your daily multivitamin might just be expensive pee

Yaar, so many of us are popping a daily multivitamin, right? We feel tired, our hair is falling out, or we just want to cover our bases. But what if that pill you swallow every morning is just passing right through you? You could be wasting your money completely.

I was reading up on this, and it is a real thing. Your body might not be absorbing the nutrients at all.

First, let's talk about our Indian water. Most cities have hard water with high TDS. This water is full of minerals like calcium and magnesium. When you take your vitamin pill with this water, these minerals can compete with the minerals in your pill, like iron or zinc. They fight for the same entry spot in your gut, and your pill often loses.

Then there is our weather. Whether you live in humid Mumbai or dry Rajasthan, dehydration is a constant risk. A dehydrated body means your gut lining isn't working at its best. Nutrients struggle to get absorbed properly if your system is dry.

What you eat with your vitamin also matters. Taking it with a very high-fiber meal can sometimes block absorption. Even your stomach's pH, its level of acidity, plays a big role. Some vitamins need an acidic environment to get absorbed, and some do not.

The pill itself can be the problem. Some cheap, hard-pressed tablets are like little rocks. They might not even break down fully in your system before they are out.

So what to do? A few simple things can help.

Stay hydrated. This is non-negotiable. Drink enough water through the day.

Your vitamin is a supplement, not a replacement for food. A balanced diet with fruits and vegetables gives you nutrients in a form your body understands better.

Some of our old nuskhe are very scientific. Turmeric, for example, has curcumin which is known to help your body absorb nutrients.

Just be careful not to take massive doses thinking more is better. It can be toxic.

What has been your experience with multivitamins? Did you ever feel they weren't doing anything for you? Any tips that worked for you? Let's discuss in the comments.
