Underqualified

For the poem I want to write
I am underqualified
For the soldier I was
And the fight he gave our love
For the man I am
Who hasn't earned his keep
For the man in line
That might have loved you right
I'd consider killing again
If only to tell you
For and not in spite of
Is the way you give your love
And embrace my sin
I know what you are
Even when ill equipped to act
My keep will be earned
Our love is my pact
