Is this normal? Job from hell.
So, I move a lot and I've had many jobs particularly in service like grocery store cashier/stocker and food service. However my newest job at a certain grocery chain is unlike any other I've experienced and I'm just wondering if this is normal and I've just been lucky up until now or if this is actually wild. (One of them I know isn't normal obviously).
So some of the rules at this cashier job are:
Cashier's are to stand at the end of the register when not checking out customers (not the issue) and while they are there they may not move around nor talk. PERIOD. Just stand there like youre brain dead until a customer comes up.
There is no water allowed at registers nor in any other space (no water what so ever while clocked in). Mind you the AC really can't keep up with the 100+ degree weather outside right now so it's hot.
Phones are not to be seen (that part is normal) and you can get written up if it is in your pocket and is peeking out just slightly but lockers in the break room do not lock and there aren't enough for everyone.
Cashier's are not to have any personal belongings at the register (I got in trouble for my keys and wallet but like I said before there are simply not enough lockers and it's not reasonable to ask us to leave those unattended out in the open)
Breaks are broken into one 30 minute break and 2 15 minute breaks but anytime cashier's ask for the 15 minute ones we are not allowed to have them. The 30 minute one we only get because it's the law.
This one was reported and is wild: a cashier who is designated to make sure everyone is following the 577995432678 billion rules at this job was reported to have been following cashier's into the bathroom and waiting outside the stalls to see that they were not on there phone or anything (nothing came of the report the employee just got a talking to)
What ever happened to simple stay off your phone, keep your area clean, be friendly and helpful and check out customers? This is so crazy to me. Overall the environment sucks and the constant disrespect and micro managing is more than enough to drive you up the wall after 8 hours.
