Do you think there's a way to use gay romance for a tragic villain without coming across as anti LGBT?

Editing Idea

A large number of villains, especially romantic ones, such as a number of incarnations of Dracula, Darth Vader, Davy Jones, etc, were driven to villainy because of their love of another. Some were abandoned or dumped, and didn't take it well and want to make everyone feel the hurt they hurt. Others made deals with the devil to try and save their beloved. And others lost their beloved to death and would do ANYTHING to bring them back... even villainy.

But all these as far as I know, were straight romances. I wonder if this could work in a gay romance. But with all the push back, do you think it's too risky of attracting homophobia accusations? Or do you think if handled with care, there can be a good tragic villains who happens to be gay, and who was driven to villainy by a tragic gay love story?
