Creating a Community

Hey there!

Myself and a few very close friends have decided to fully commit to creating a community together. We live in Western Oregon, and the community would most likely be located in Douglas County.

We've reached out to a few land use attorneys about getting a consultation, as we need to figure out exactly what we can and cannot do, but I thought I'd throw out some feelers here in the meantime so I can be more focused and deliberate with my questions and propositions when the time comes.

Ideally, we'd like to create a trust, take out an FHA loan in the name of that trust, and build several homes on a larger piece of land. I actually already have a good friend that owns a construction company that's fully on board to do the building.

As far as I understand it, one of our biggest hurdles is going to be zoning the property to allow for multiple dwellings in relatively close proximity. Maybe .5 - 1 acre apart, if possible. We also had the idea of bringing the idea to fruition as a business, (event hosting, wedding venues, air b&bs, selling produce, etc.)

For the time being, I would love some input on how something like this would be most realistically approached. I'm very fortunate to have the friends that I do, and I hope the trust they're placing in me to spearhead this process isn't misplaced.

Thank you!
